Stories about serial killers always have a certain appeal. This is demonstrated by the long and ever-growing list of films dedicated to these dangerous characters. Recently, a film was made Ghoul (2015), the Ukrainian film directed by Petr Jákl and inspired by the story of Andrei Chikatilo (1936-1994), a Russian murderer, cannibal, and pedophile nicknamed “the Monster of Rostov.” In January 2016, Memoir of a Cannibal, a film dedicated to Armin Meiwes, “the Cannibal of Rotenburg.”.
A film dedicated to another notorious serial killer is currently in the works. To be precise, it is about a woman accused of killing around twenty people, including ex-husbands, lovers, family members, and children, with arsenic. We are talking about Mary Ann Cotton, a British serial killer who lived in the 19th century.
The film will be titled Dark Angel (Great Britain – 2016) and Joanne Froggatt will play the dangerous poisoner who lived in the Victorian era. Brian Percival will direct from a screenplay by Gwyneth Hughes. Filming will begin next August, when the rest of the cast will be revealed.
Dark Angel It traces the story of Mary Ann, a loving mother and wife, forced by poverty and her husband's illness to pursue her own desires in order to have a better life. The woman thus transforms herself into a ruthless serial killer, a sort of black widow, in order to steal her husbands' money.
The film is based on the novel Mary Ann Cotton: Britain's First Female Serial Killer by David Wilson.
