The protagonist of the story is Sam (Maurice Luijten), a psychologically disturbed 12-year-old who is at a summer scout camp with his friends. When the boy, who has a vivid imagination, claims to have seen a creature lurking in the woods, his fellow adventurers obviously don't believe him and instead think that their stories about the monster Kai have influenced him. Sam is the only one who has seen a dangerous, masked, wild-looking child who does not take his eyes off the group of scouts. The other boys make fun of their peer and isolate him. Meanwhile, a dangerous poacher threatens the group's safety.
