Thai horror cinema returns to explore folklore and supernatural revenge with Cher, a new project written by Patrick Graham and directed by Songsak Mongkolthong.
The film offers a modern horror take on ancient Thai folklore, inspired by the legend of forest nymphs known as Nang Mai.

Nang Mai are female spirits from Thai folklore associated with trees, regarded as both protective and vengeful entities. They inhabit large trunks, within which they are said to build dwellings invisible to humans, and they severely punish anyone who desecrates or cuts down their tree, bringing illness, misfortune, or even madness.

Produced by Benetone Films and Fearfolks, Cher is currently in pre-production in Bangkok and aims to bring a modern reinterpretation of local legends tied to forest spirits to the screen.

The story follows a police officer investigating a corpse entwined in vines discovered near a mining site built on sacred land. As the case unfolds, he is forced to confront family secrets and rumors of a vengeful spirit, possibly tied to a mysterious young woman, turning the natural environment into a hostile presence.
