In these hours, the reboot of Candyman ed è stata annunciata la data d'uscita USA (prevista per il 12 giugno 2020 con Universal Pictures) insieme al nome del regista. La regia infatti è stata affidata a Nia DaCosta che quest'anno ha esordito al cinema con il drammatico-western Little Woods while the producer is Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele (Escape - Get Out).
Questo nuovo capitolo sarà un "spiritual follow-up" dell'originale e la storia si svolgerà nel quartiere di Chicago dove tutto ha avuto inizio: il violento e degradato Cabrini-Green dove è stato assassinato Candyman.
The film is being produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions in collaboration with MGM, and filming will begin next spring.
Directed by Bernard Rose in 1992, Candyman - Terror Behind the Mirror is based on the story The Forbidden by Clive Barker.
Plot of Candyman - Terror Behind the Mirror (1992): Helen Lyle is a Chicago student who becomes interested in the urban legend of Naceur, the son of a slave who was tortured and murdered in the 19th century. After his hand was amputated, the man was covered with honey to be killed by bees. Under the name Candyman he will return from beyond the grave in the guise of a bee-wrapped killer whenever someone repeats his name five times in front of the mirror.
Bernard Rose's film had two sequels: Candyman 2 - Hell in the Mirror (1995) directed by Bill Condon and Candyman - Day of Death (1999) by Turi Meyer. The saga made Tony Todd, an American actor and producer later seen in other franchises such as Final Destination and Hatchet.
