IFC (The Independent Film Company) and Shudder have released the official poster for Breeder, the horror movie marking Alex Goyette’s feature directorial debut.
Following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last June, Breeder explores the subject of eugenics through the figure of a deranged poodle breeder, as explained by the director himself.
The movie has been rated R for "disturbing material, violence/bloody images, sexual content, graphic nudity, and language" and will open in U.S. theaters on October 16 via IFC and Shudder.
Plot: an eccentric poodle breeder lures a broke college student to her remote ranch with the promise of research funding. He soon discovers, however, that there is much more behind the offer.
The cast includes Daniel Doheny, Dot Marie Jones, Maddie Phillips and Tanaya Beatty.
The producers are Ian Start, Byron Ashley, Brian Mitchell, Chris Wilkinson and K. Asher Levin, while Jeremy Ross, Ronnie Exley, Steven Schneider, Ryan Marchant and Tyson Call serve as executive producers.
The screenplay was also written by Alex Goyette.
Eugenics is the idea of genetically "improving" a population by encouraging reproduction among people considered desirable while discouraging or preventing it among others.
