New titles coming out with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment include. Black Phone (USA - 2021), the horror film produced by Blumhouse and featuring Scott Derrickson (Ultimatum to Earth, Sinister, Deliver Us from Evil) as director.
The film debuted in Italian theaters last June 23 and will be available on DVD and Blu-ray formats starting September 22, 2022.
Black Phone is the film adaptation of Joe Hill's short story of the same name and stars Ethan Hawke (The Northman), an American actor, screenwriter and director who has previously worked with Scott Derrickson in the horror Sinister (2012) and who, in this new film, plays a dangerous psychopath.
Plot: 13-year-old Finney Shaw is kidnapped by a serial killer (Ethan Hawke) who has already killed several minors. Locked in a soundproof basement, the young boy finds an old disconnected telephone set, through which he will be able to hear the voices of his tormentor's victims and who will try to help him.
The cast also includes Jeremy Davies, James Ransone, Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw.
The screenplay for the film was written by Scott Derrickson himself in collaboration with Robert Cargill.
Recall that the masks worn by Ethan Hawke in Black Phone were designed by renowned U.S. effects designer Tom Savini (Zombie, Friday the 13th, Maniac, Day of the Zombies).
