With IFC Films comes online a clip from birth/rebirth (USA - 2023), the modern-day retelling of "Frankenstein," Mary Shelley's famous gothic sci-fi horror novel.
Directed by Laura Moss, here in her first feature film, birth/rebirth is currently in U.S. theaters starting August 18 and will then also arrive on Shudder at a date to be determined.
The film was officially rated Rated R for "disturbing material and blood, sexual content, inappropriate language and nudity."
Plot: Rose (Marin Ireland) is a pathologist who prefers to work on corpses and is obsessed with reanimating the dead while Celie (Judy Reyes) is a maternity nurse who lives for Lila (A.J. Lister), her six-year-old daughter. When the little girl falls ill and dies, the two women's worlds collide, forcing them to confront each other and testing them to protect what they hold most dear.
In the cast of birth/rebirth there are Marin Ireland, Judy Reyes, A.J. Lister, Breeda Wool, Monique Gabriela Curnen, LaChanze and Erica Sweany.
The screenplay for the film is by Laura Moss in collaboration with Brendan J. O'Brien.
