Beneath Still Water è il titolo di un film indipendente di genere thriller/horror scritto da Steven K Beattie e diretto da Philip Kempson. The legend about the Blake Mere Pool mermaid has two origins: out of love and out of witchcraft.
La prima vede un marinaio innamorarsi di una sirena e condurla in un lago affinché i due possano vivere vicini. Essendo mortale l'uomo poi muore lasciando la sua amata sola nel bacino lacustre.
The second version is that of the girl sentenced to death by drowning because she was accused of witchcraft. The young girl had actually refused to marry Joshua Linnet, a local man who died a few days after her. Legend has it that it was the girl who cursed him and that her spirit transformed into a vengeful mermaid.
Philip Kempson's film, which promises creepy atmospheres, focuses precisely on this second version of the legend, shifting the story to the present day. In fact, the plot sees a group of adults reach Blake Mere Pool to be in touch with nature. During their stay, locals tell them the legend of the mermaid, a dangerous being who lures men into the lake to snatch their lives.
