Bedevil - Don't install it (USA – 2017), l’horror sull’app diabolica, ha esordito nei cinema italiani lo scorso 28 giugno ed ora è disponibile per l'home video in Italia grazie a Midnight Factory. Il film segna l’esordio alla regia dei fratelli Vang (qui al loro primo lungometraggio dopo il corto fantascientifico Sentient) and stars Saxon Sharbino (Poltergeist), Brandon Soo Hoo (From Dusk to Dawn - The Series), Victory Van Tuyl and Alexis G. Zall (Ouija 2).
Bedevil - Don't install it si distacca dall'ondata di remake e reboot che emulano e omaggiano i classici del passato per proporre un horror dal tema attuale. Nel film dei fratelli Vang è proprio un'applicazione malefica a generare terrore e morte, un'app simbolo della tecnologia moderna ma che, come i precedenti dispositivi del passato trattati nel cinema di genere (The Ring, The Call...), è in grado di far scattare una serie di infauste situazioni.
Nutrita delle paure delle sue vittime, l'entità malefica generata dall'applicazione mobile si materializza assumendo tratti caratteristici inquietanti, infestando in questo modo anche la realtà dei protagonisti.
L'astratta app persecutoria dà così spazio alla manifestazione tangibile di un male che, attraverso i dispositivi mobile, si estende a macchia d'olio.
I fratelli Vang dirigono dunque un "horror tecnologico e moderno" che ha il suo punto di forza nell'attualità del tema affrontato e in cui si avvertono echi del cinema orientale e, soprattutto, di It by Stephen King. An exaggerated use of jumpscare might annoy, however Bedevil - Don't install it has its tension-filled moments in which queen is a very captivating demonic figure.
Five teens receive an invitation to download an app called "Bedevil." Once installed, a demonic entity will begin to haunt the group of teens by haunting their homes and causing them to confront their greatest fears. To survive the malevolent supernatural presence, the young people will have to learn to work together, trusting each other.
