Barbara Shelley, the queen of Hammer Productions Films, passed away today, Jan. 4, from complications due to Covid. The British actress was 88 years old.
Barbara Shelley had been hospitalized after contracting the virus but her death was due to aggravation of previous illnesses.
A face of Hammer Productions Films, Barbara Shelley starred in a variety of films from the famous British film production company founded in 1949 and famous for its series of horror films produced from the late 1950s through the 1970s: The look that kills (1964) e Dracula, prince of darkness (1966) by Terence Fisher, Rasputin, the mad monk (1966) by Don Sharp and The spaceship of lost beings (1967) by Roy Ward Baker.
The actress made her film debut in Italy, appearing in a number of Italian films including. Supreme Confession (1956) by Sergio Corbucci and Totò, Peppino and the Outlaws (1956) by Camillo Mastrocinque. In Cat Girl (1957) by Alfred Shaughnessy gets his first leading role while in 1960 he starred in the The village of the damned (directed by Wolf Rilla) opposite Vincent Price. In 1966, however, he was part of the cast of Dracula, prince of darkness, vampire movie starring the iconic Christopher Lee.
