Joston Theney writes and directs slasher/horror Axeman 2: Overkill (USA - 2017), il sequel di Axeman which he himself directed in 2013. The film marks the return of the hatchet-wielding villain, who, in this sequel, employs a sidekick in his exterminating missions.
La storia si piazza trent'anni dopo gli eventi del primo capitolo e abbraccia un numeroso gruppo di personaggi (cristiani evangelici, rapinatori di banche, feroci assassini e poliziotti) che, finiti nella cittadina di Cutter’s Creek per i più vari motivi, scopriranno a loro spese che Axeman non è una leggenda locale.
Axeman 2: Overkill falls into the thick list of slasher movies by paying homage to the genre without bringing any novelty. The viewing of the film is not the least bit smooth: the story proceeds slowly, dampening curiosity in the viewer, and even the first murders offer a poor show of blood. Axeman 2: Overkill però punta sull'ironia e sullo humour nero che in questo caso mantiene vivo l'interesse.
Con l'avanzare della storia, si fanno notare alcuni personaggi come il leader della gang (Craig Partamian) e la sua compagna Sunshine (interpretata da Jacqui Holland, qui in un ruolo frizzante, folle e sorprendente). L'attrice infatti regala momenti erotici che si tingono non solo di follia ma anche di originalità rendendo spiccante (e piccante) la sua performance.
Per la maggior parte del film si assiste ad un'accozzaglia di personaggi che, come topi in trappola, finiranno poi per essere i re e le regine di uno spettacolo violento e sanguinario. Ecco che, verso il finale, Axeman 2: Overkill changes register and gives the viewer what he expects: a real slaughter. The fun is also assured because the film offers hilarious sequences: testicles spit out of the mouth from a kick received in the nether regions and a man killed with a sword stuck between the buttocks are certainly among the funniest moments of the film, combined with the likability of the sketchy Sunshine.
Axeman 2: Overkill riesce così a risollevarsi negli ultimi venti minuti (circa) facendo scomparire la noia che ha attanagliato lo spettatore sin dall'inizio.
