August brings two new horror movies to Italian theaters: Hokum, directed by Damian McCarthy and opening on August 5, and Insidious: Out of the Further, directed by Jacob Chase and set for release on August 19.
The two movies explore very different sides of horror: Hokum draws on witchcraft and ancient folk beliefs, while Insidious: Out of the Further expands the supernatural world of the Insidious franchise with a new journey into the Further.

August 5: HOKUM
Damian McCarthy (Caveat, Oddity) directs Hokum, a horror movie steeped in witchcraft and folk beliefs that debuted at No. 3 at the Italian box office on its opening day.
Released by Lucky Red, the film grossed €86,818 from 13,485 admissions, marking one of the strongest horror debuts of the year.
The story stars Emmy-nominated Adam Scott (Krampus) as Ohm Bauman, a troubled writer who travels to a remote part of Ireland to scatter his parents' ashes. What begins as a journey of remembrance takes a sinister turn when the house where he is staying appears to be connected to a dark presence, ancient practices, and a past that resurfaces with increasingly threatening consequences.
The cast of Hokum also includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Will O'Connell, Michael Patrick, Brendan Conroy, and Austin Amelio.

Agust: INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER
Directed by Jacob Chase (Come Play), Insidious: Out of the Further will hit Italian theaters on August 19 through Sony Pictures Releasing Italia.
The film is a sequel to Insidious: The Red Door (2023) and the sixth installment in the franchise launched by Leigh Whannell and James Wan in 2010.
The story centers on Gemma (Amelia Eve), a young mother living with her daughter in the house where she was born. She discovers that she has the ability to enter the Further, the purgatory-like realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe. When an evil entity begins hunting her, Gemma realizes that her power goes even further: she can bring things from the Further into the real world. Once the demons become aware of her ability, our world becomes their new playground.
The cast includes Amelia Eve and Island Austin as the new leads, alongside longtime franchise star Lin Shaye, who returns as medium Elise Rainier. Sam Spruell and Brandon Perea round out the cast.
