Slip by a few days the release date of Audition (1999), cult Japanese horror film written by Daisuke Tengan and directed by the well-known Takashi Miike (Ichi The Killer, Visitor Q, Yakuza Apocalypse).
Based on the novel of the same name by Ryû Murakami, Audition will arrive in Italian cinemas as a "special event," in a restored edition, next Jan. 23-24-25 (no longer Jan. 16-17-18) thanks to WANTED Cinema, a distribution house dedicated to "sought-after" independent cinema.

Audition features Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi), a middle-aged man who has been widowed for several years. On the advice of his son, the man reaches out to his friend Yasuhisa Yoshigawa, a film producer who arranges for him to audition for a film that will never be made but is intended to introduce many girls to the widower. At the audition, Shigeharu falls in love with Asami (Eihi Shiina), a sweet young former dancer with whom he begins a relationship that soon turns into an unimaginable nightmare.

In the cast: Ryo Ishibashi, Eihi Shiina, Jun Kunimura, Tetsu Sawaki, Renji Ishibashi, Miyuki Matsuda, Toshie Negishi, Ren Ôsugi, and Ken Mitsuishi.
First released in 1999, Audition is considered one of Takashi Miike's best films.
