Empire magazine has published a new image of Army of The Dead, the new zombie movie from Zack Snyder, a director known for directing Dawn of the Living Dead (2004), the remake of the film Dawn of the Dead directed by George Romero in 1978.
Produced by Netflix, Army of the Dead is the first installment of a horror saga and is scheduled for release in 2021.
The image features Dave Bautista, who is reported by Empire to have said. Army of the Dead represents a chance to try his hand at a subgenre he loves very much, that of the zombie movie: "I am a fan of movies about the living dead. For years I've been trying to join the cast of The Walking Dead even just to play a zombie for free but they told me I was too big!”
The story of Army of The Dead takes place in the midst of a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. The protagonist is a man who recruits a group of mercenaries to pull off the biggest and riskiest heist of all time by venturing into the quarantine zone.
In development at Warner Bros. since 2007, Army of the Dead cost about $70 to $80 million.
The cast includes Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Dave Bautista, Hiroyuki Sanada (Avengers: Endgame), Omari Hardwick (Kick Ass), Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Raúl Castillo, Rich Cetrone, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, and Samantha Win (Arrow, Wonder Woman).
The screenplay was written by Zack Snyder himself in collaboration with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold.
