Angra is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Holy Land with a newly remastered edition of the album, due for release on October 19, 2026. Originally released in 1996, the album will be reissued on CD and, for the first time, will also be available on vinyl.
Formed in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1991 under the guidance of guitarist Rafael Bittencourt and vocalist André Matos, Angra quickly established a distinctive place within the heavy metal scene. The band pushed beyond traditional genre boundaries by combining the complex structures of European power metal with Brazilian percussion, orchestral arrangements and classical influences.
While their debut album, Angels Cry, had already introduced this approach, the release of Holy Land in 1996 marked a major artistic breakthrough for Angra. Frequently regarded as the band's defining work, the album remains an important release within the power metal genre.
Thematically, Holy Land explores Brazil's colonial history during the 16th century, combining aggressive guitar riffs with native and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, large choral sections and symphonic elements. Produced with the involvement of Sascha Paeth and Charlie Bauerfeind, the album received international acclaim and continues to hold a significant place among fans of progressive, symphonic and power metal.
For the 30th anniversary edition, Holy Land has been specially remastered. The CD version will be released in a six-panel digipak with an expanded booklet, previously unreleased photographs and a 30 x 60 cm poster. The double-vinyl edition will feature deluxe gatefold packaging, printed color inner sleeves and a foldout poster.
The 2-LP edition will be distributed internationally, excluding Japan and Brazil, on standard black vinyl and as a limited white-vinyl edition of 300 copies. Additional color variants will also be available exclusively through selected European media partners.
The lineup that recorded Holy Land featured Rafael Bittencourt on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, André Matos on lead vocals, piano and keyboards, Kiko Loureiro on lead guitar, Ricardo Confessori on drums and percussion, and Luis Mariutti on bass.
