Amityville_PossessionThe Montelli family decides to buy a house in Amityville, but from the very day they move in, strange events begin to occur. What's more, ever since the Montellis moved into the house, their family has slowly begun to crumble. Mrs. Montelli, a devout believer, decides to ask Father Adamski, the town's parish priest, for help, but this will only make the situation worse. As Mr. Montelli becomes aggressive and violent toward his wife and children, the eldest son Sonny appears to be succumbing to evil forces that drive him to strange and dangerous behavior, starting with incest with his sister and ending with the slaughter of the entire family.
Father Adamski feels partly responsible for that bloodbath, but when he meets the young killer he realizes that he is not operating according to his own will, as he is possessed by a demon. The priest asks his superiors for permission to intervene with an exorcism, but the Church stalls. Then Father Adamski decides to act on his own initiative: taking Sonny from the psychiatric hospital, in which he was being treated, he brings him to the place where it all began: the Amityville house. Here, after a long unequal confrontation with the demon, thanks to a "Superior" intervention the priest manages to save the young man from possession, becoming in turn possessed.
Certainly of all the sequels that number Amityville Horror, this is the most successful. The film is based on the book Murder in Amityville by Hans Holzer.
The story is very reminiscent of both the first episode in the series and another great horror film of that period, The Exorcist (to which this film owes a great debt, especially in the ending). But it must be admitted that the mix is particularly effective.
The film is quite polished, and good is the direction by Italian Damiani. The music is particularly suited to the film's setting, and helps to create the right atmosphere.
At the end of the viewing, the viewer's overall opinion can only be positive. Must-see.
