The landmark French horror Inside (aka À l'intérieur) is receiving its first Italian release thanks to Midnight Factory. Written and directed in 2007 by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (also behind Livid, Aux yeux des vivants, and Leatherface), Inside is now widely regarded as one of the finest horror/splatter films of recent years and a cornerstone of French horror cinema.
At the center of this bleak, violent, and blood-soaked story is Sarah (Alysson Paradis), a young photographer in the final stages of pregnancy, still unable to come to terms with the death of her partner, who died in a car accident four months earlier. On Christmas Eve, her isolation is shattered by the arrival of a mysterious woman (Béatrice Dalle), seemingly fixated on her—and above all, on the child she is carrying.
Inside begins with a tragic premise and quickly descends into raw horror, blending splatter with elements of home invasion. The film delivers an intense mix of psychological and physical brutality, built on sharp emotional contrasts. Scored by François-Eudes Chanfrault, whose somber and haunting music underscores the narrative, brief moments of tenderness tied to memory are set against a cold, grief-stricken present, deepening the fractures within the protagonist. Within this constant tension between opposing emotions, the ferocity of Inside takes on an almost lyrical quality, turning pain and love into something stark and unsettling.
Within this suffocating atmosphere of grief, the theme of maternal love emerges and intensifies under the pressure of danger, ultimately taking control of both women and becoming the driving force behind the ensuing bloodshed. Notably, the film also pays homage to Anthropophagus by Joe D'Amato.
The film's mounting tension eventually erupts into a sudden surge of violence that reaches extreme levels of brutality. The splatter and gore sequences leave nothing to the imagination, presenting everything in explicit detail with striking realism, supported by highly effective practical effects. This impact is further enhanced by Laurent Barès' cinematography, which elevates even the most graphic moments, bloodshed and dismemberment included, through a cold, almost clinical visual approach that amplifies their brutality.
In 2016, Spanish director Miguel Ángel Vivas helmed a remake of Inside. The original film by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury was also referenced by Kevin Greutert in Visions (USA – 2015).

Inside was released in Italy for the first time on April 19, 2018 through Midnight Factory, which made it available in a limited edition on both DVD and Blu-ray, each including a booklet with a film review, details on the directors, and production trivia.
The Blu-ray edition, presented with a slipcase, features strong audio/video quality along with a substantial selection of bonus content.
