The immense French horror film Inside - À l'intérieur is being distributed for the first time in Italy thanks to Midnight Factory. Written and directed in 2007 by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (the directors of Livid, Aux yeux des vivants and the recent Leatherface), Inside - À l'intérieur is now considered one of the best horror/splatter films of recent years, a milestone in French horror cinema.
The protagonist of this dramatic, cruel, and bloody story is Sarah (Alysson Paradis), a young photographer in her ninth month of pregnancy who cannot get over the death of her partner four months earlier in a car accident. On Christmas Eve she finds herself in the home of a stranger (Béatrice Dalle) who seems obsessed with her and, in particular, the baby she is carrying.
Inside - À l'intérieur embraces a story that, born of tragedy, veers into horror and splatter via subgenres such as home invasion. The film is an explosion of psychological and physical brutality but also of sharp contrasts. Accompanied by sad and devastating music (François-Eudes Chanfrault) in fact, the rare moments of sweetness (related to memories) alternate with the icy reality darkened by grief, thus creating more cracks in the heart of the protagonist. In this alternation of conflicting emotions, the disturbing and bloody À l'Intérieur It becomes pure poetry of pain and love.
Into this depressing nest of affliction comes the theme of maternal love, which, amplified by danger, takes over the two women involved, becoming the root cause of the carnage (surprising homage to Anthropophagus by Joe D'Amato).
The suspense that abounds in the film culminates in an abrupt tracking shot. of unexpected violence that reaches high levels of cruelty. The splatter and gore scenes leave no room for imagination but show everything in minute detail and with extreme realism (the special effects are very effective in this regard). All this is then accentuated by a cinematography (by Laurent Barès) that enhances the beauty of the images, including those related to blood and quartering (thanks also to cold and surgical shots that enhance the brutality).
In 2016, Spanish director Miguel Ángel Vivas made a remake of Inside - À l'intérieur. Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury's film was also paid tribute by Kevin Greutert in Visions (USA - 2015).
In the cast of Inside - À l'intérieur: Alysson Paradis, Béatrice Dalle, Jean-Baptiste Tabourin, Claude Lulé, Dominique Frot, Nathalie Roussel, and François-Régis Marchasson.
