After the confirmation of Danny Boyle's involvement in 28 Years Later, the new trilogy based on the iconic films 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), Sony Pictures is already looking for the director of the second installment. A few days ago it was announced that Danny Boyle will direct the first installment, while Nia DaCosta (Little Woods, Candyman - 2021) is in talks to direct the second film in Sony Trilogy.
Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation) will handle the screenplay for all three films in the trilogy. In addition, both Boyle and Garland appear on the crew as producers along with Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice.
Cillian Murphy, on the other hand, is the executive producer and may appear in 28 Years Later also as an actor.
Filming of the first chapter will be started by the end of the year while, that of the second, soon after.
Nia DaCosta made her directorial debut in 2018 with Little Woods. In 2021 she directed Candyman, a contemporary spiritual sequel to the 1992 horror film of the same name while, in 2023, she wrote and directed The Marvels, a film based on Marvel comic books.
