In an interview on Deadline, Cillian Murphy has been confirmed to be among the cast of the post-apocalyptic horror film 28 Years Later, the sequel to 28 days later (2002) and of 28 weeks later (2007).
The Irish actor will reprise the role that made him famous in 28 days later and will be joined in the cast by Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O'Connell.
Produced by Cillian Murphy himself, the film is set to be released in theaters on June 20, 2025.
Directed by Danny Boyle, on a script he co-wrote with Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation), 28 Years Later is also the first chapter of a trilogy sequel to 28 days later.
Nia DaCosta (Little Woods, Candyman - 2021) is in talks to direct the second installment of the saga while Alex Garland will handle the screenplay for all the three films.
28 Years Later is produced by Columbia Pictures in collaboration with DNA Films and Decibel Films.
