1997: Escape from New York - The Radio Silence movie will not be a remake

According to Entertainment Weekly, Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella) have stated that their Escape from New York For 20Th Century Studios will not be remaking the Carpenterian masterpiece 1997: Escape from New York (1981).

On EW, Chad Villella specified that their project, produced by John Carpenter himself and written by Neil Cross (The Mother), is currently in development while Tyler Gillett pointed out that the film will not be a remake: "It is not a remake. It is one of those films that you cannot remake. For us it is untouchable. It will probably be similar to Scream... A continuation of the original film, with those characters....“.

Recall that the Radio Silence are the directors of Southbound - Highway to Hell, Till death do us part, Scream (2022) e Scream 6 (2023), respectively the fifth and sixth installments of the famous slasher saga started in 1996 by Wes Craven.
